Curriculum planning

These modules are designed to help you meet the challenge of redesigning the curriculum to allow for the integration of a range of learning routes, qualifications and settings not previously offered to all students, including the Diploma.

Curriculum planners will need to be aware of how to make best use of available resources, and how additional and specialist learning (ASL) can support personalisation and choice. These modules enable you to explore different methods of curriculum design to integrate ASL and personal, learning and thinking skills (PLTS) in a range of settings.

Curriculum design

  • Introduces you to some curriculum models for timetabling all of the components of the Diploma across a consortium.
  • Includes top tips for success and refers to examples of good practice.
  • Provides examples that are drawn from the extensive research and information available from other agencies, such as the Qualifications and
    Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA).

Awareness of additional and specialist learning (ASL) opportunities

  • Helps you to identify the range of qualifications that are available as ASL in the Diploma.
  • Covers the purpose of ASL and how it contributes to personalising Diploma routes.
  • Introduces the Diploma catalogues available from the National Database for Approved Qualifications (NDAQ) and explains how to use them.
  • Provides opportunities to consider the role of ASL in allowing learners to transfer between different learning routes, and how it contributes to progression including entry to higher education.

Mapping and accrediting personal, learning and thinking skills (PLTS) across the curriculum

  • Helps you to identify practical strategies to map PLTS and to develop assignments to integrate them into the Diploma.
  • Provides opportunities to explore how assignments can be developed to integrate PLTS, functional skills and work experience.
