I can smile and I am known to smile on camera, however on this occasion I look very serious and focused on the task at hand. I am of course referring to my 2 minutes of fame, when I was filmed for an IAG video clip. I wasn't the star of the show, but it was an exciting experience for me, but my adrenaline was charged in support of my young person the real diploma star.
I was asked to nominate a student who would be willing to participate in being filmed talking about their experiences of the diploma. The aim of the filming and subsequent dvd is to promote the different educational choices for young people at school leaving age. My learner was especially nervous about the whole event, however the rest of my class (all girls), who took minor roles in the filming were very excited and the buzz in the classroom was electric.
The girls were pampering themselves in the toilet at break and lunch to ensure they looked their best, and overall they themselves enjoyed the experience of being in the lime light for one day. For the star, he did an amazing job of describing what he has gained from the diploma and what he enjoys doing in college. He also explains really well the difference between a diploma and the traditional A level route. The confidence in my students have soared as a result and they are more than willing now to participate in role plays and future filming events - a real confidence booster to my small advanced diploma group.

Hi Nia
This is great, I think this is really what young people want as part of their IAG to see other young people and how they are making decisions and coping with transition, true 'learner voice'. thanks for sharing regards Jayne
